                    PAIS Membership


Categories of Membership


For Schools:

Regular Member:

  • Meets published criteria for membership, including accreditation by PAIS or MSACS
  • Has been approved by the PAIS Board of Directors
  • Attends the Annual Meeting of the Corporation with full voting privileges
  • Pays annual dues set by the Board of Directors

Candidate Member:

  • Is a newly approved member
  • Has been accepted into the PAIS accreditation process
  • Is currently in the self study process and
  • Working toward full PAIS accreditation status
  • Attends the Annual Meeting of the Corporation with full voting privileges
  • Pays annual dues set by the Board of Directors

Provisional Member:

  • Is a newly approved member
  • Is preparing for acceptance into the PAIS accreditation process
  • Attends the Annual Meeting of the Corporation with full voting privileges
  • Pays annual dues set by the Board of Directors

For Associations:

Associate Member:

  • Serves a preponderance of independent schools
  • Has a clear interest in education
  • Is a not for profit organization
  • Has been approved by the PAIS Board of Directors
  • May attend the Annual Meeting of the Corporation with no vote
  • Pays no dues

For Others:

Subscriber:

  • School (i.e. Charter or non-independent), organization or individual otherwise not eligible for PAIS membership and cannot meet PAIS Criteria
  • Has an interest in education
  • Attends PAIS professional development opportunities at PAIS fees

Subscriber Fee:

  • Covers September to June professional development programming at PAIS rates
  • School or Organization pays $250
  • Individual pays $75

                  Criteria for Membership

Prior to submitting an application for PAIS membership, leadership must be able to establish that the School:

  • Is academic in its mission.
  • Is a not-for-profit, IRS designated 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Is governed by an independent Board of Trustees
  • Is funded primarily through tuition, endowment revenue, and/or philanthropy, not by tax or church funds.
  • Is applying to become a candidate in the PAIS (Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools) accreditation process or is currently accredited by MSACS (Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools).
  • Has a written policy of non-discrimination.
  • Has conducted a certified independent audit including the auditor's opinion letter.

PAIS and its members are required to comply with all applicable laws and regulations regarding discrimination in all aspects of school operation as provided by law.
