Elevate Learning is the PAIS Teaching and Learning annual event, taking place this year in Pittsburgh and in partnership with Carlow University. The event is 2-days, October 18 & 19,  and offers a Pre-Conference Workshop (registration is separate), Schooled the Musical and Reception, and the Conference itself, featuring workshops that follow three tracks for learning - Learning Differences, AI in Education, and The Science and Design of Student Engagement. The entire event is for teachers, academic leaders, learning support staff and counselors.

In this session, you will dig into real problems your school is wrestling with around student life and well-being, not to fix them instantly, but to see them differently. We’ll explore how students develop and make meaning at different stages of their lives, why resistance in our systems often signals something worth listening to, and how shifting who owns the problem can change everything. Come ready to design, reflect, and share your wisdom on the experiences of young people and how we can best support them. Bring a real, messy, unresolved issue your school is living with right now. That’s where the good work happens.

Schooled, the Musical | Sunday, October 18, 2026, 6:30- 9:00pm
A two-act staged-reading | Reception one hour prior & bar open after

Hamilton meets The Sound of Music meets Good Night and Good Luck…all set in and around a contemporary high school. Schooled is a new musical in development about growing up, finding your way, and the role school plays in shaping who we become. The story follows a brother, a sister, and a friend from high school into adulthood as they navigate relationships, ambitions, setbacks, and an uncertain world. Featuring music that draws from classical, hip-hop, Latin, pop, jazz, and spiritual traditions, Schooled takes a funny, thoughtful, and sometimes challenging look at education from the student perspective. Along the way, it raises questions about what we learn in school, what we don’t, and what stays with us long after we leave.

Best of all, the very first two act reading of this musical will be performed on our stage!

Education in the Dawning Age of AI
Drawing on their work at the intersection of AI, technology, and education, Peter Nilsson, Dr. Illah Nourbakhsh, and Dr. Jennifer Keating explore the opportunities, limitations, and larger implications of AI in schools. This conversation will move beyond the headlines to consider how educators can use this arrival technology thoughtfully and proactively while preserving the relationships, critical thinking, creativity, and human nature at the heart of learning. Together, the panelists will examine not simply what AI can do, but how educators can shape its role in the future of education. the web for the purpose of promoting innovation in education.
