This training program provides school leaders with the essential skills to conduct thorough and legally compliant investigations of student complaints and potential misconduct. Participants will learn how to properly handle complaints involving students while navigating unique K-12 challenges, including disruptions by parents, involvement of the student’s counsel and communications to the parties and community. Through interactive training and real-world case studies, attendees will gain the tools and confidence needed to conduct fair, objective investigations that minimize legal risk and protect the school community.

Meet the Presenter: Susan Guerette, Partner, Fisher Phillips

image.pngSusan Guerette is a partner in the firm and a member of the firm's Education Practice Group, which represents private educational institutions nationwide in employee, student, parent and board issues.  Susan actively represents over eighty independent and private educational institutions and provides preventive counseling, training, audits, policy reviews, guidance with LGBTQ issues, board governance assistance and training, defense of claims in the administrative setting, and litigation in all courts.

Susan regularly works with schools to address issues with employees, students and parents.  She assists with performance management, terminations and non-renewals, claims of sexual harassment and discrimination and investigation of complaints by employees and students.  She also drafts and reviews school policies, enrollment contracts, handbooks and severance agreements and negotiates employee compensation and employment agreements, including Head of School contracts.  She also works with school Boards on bylaws, articles of incorporation and training.
